About Conductor
Avip Priatna, Conductor & Music Director Avip Priatna is currently the most successful young conductor in Indonesia. Numerous awards both at national and international level have been received for his outstanding performances. His achievements began when he received a permanent trophy from the most important national choir competition, the ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology) Choir Festival, after winning first place three times in a row. He began to move in the international circles after leading the Unpar Choir to first place in an International Choir Festival in Arnheim, Netherlands, in 1995. The peak of his success came once again with the Unpar Choir when they took third place in the mixed choir category and first place in the folklore category at the prestigious International Polyphony Music Competition in Arezzo, Italy, in 1997. He was also awarded the best conductor in the ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology) Choir Festival. Avip Priatna started his musical education at the age of 10 by taking piano lessons with Mrs. Rosaline Tambunan in his hometown, Bogor. While continuing his formal education in Parahyangan Catholic Universitys Architectural faculty, he continued his lessons in piano with pianist Oerip S. Santoso, and choir directing with Aida Swenson. After gaining his Bachelor Degree, he decided to continue his musical education in Hochschule für Musik und Darstlende Kunst in Vienna, Austria, with a scholarship from the Rotary Club and the Austrian Government. Under the guidance of Gunther Theuring in choir directing and Leopold Hager for orchestra directing, he received a Diploma I with honors (ausgezeichnet). And in 1998 he finished his Magister Diploma for Choir under the guidance of Gunther Theuring, with a scholarship from Parahyangan Catholic University. While he was there, he joined a few outstanding choirs in Vienna, and was trusted to become assistant conductor for the Vienna Jeunesse Chor. |
